The main reason people end up in arguments is to prove their points.
Here are some of the techniques some Luos use to throw their opponents off balance during arguments.
1. EngLuo vocabulary
Luos are famed for their remarkable mastering of the English language, a language they sometimes incorporate into their Luo language to make it more sophisticated.
Consequently, an argument with a Luo can leave you looking like a fool once they decide to release the Engluo in them to confuse you, and technically push you out of the game.
Consequently, one can decide to simply tell you ‘Kenya is marwa’ a sentence that will send you back to the dictionaries and by the time you will be realizing that ‘marwa’ is the Luo word for ‘ours’ you will have had your piece of humiliation.
2. International celebrities
Many people get into an argument under the feeling that they are right and their point or opinion is the best, a situation that also emerges when a Luo lands into an argument with a person who happens to be from the other community.
Here, others will begin counting the international celebrities with their roots in Luo Nyanza, leaving you who might not be conversant with any from your community ashamed of yourself.
They will brag of former U.S president Barrack Obama and Oscar Award winner Lupita Nyong’o in an attempt to admit that they are right.
3. Culture and Luo Nyanza
They will brag about them owning a city in the name of Kisumu, and that they have remained loyal to their culture and are, therefore, very right.
Considering that many young people nowadays do not play any attention to their communities’ ancient ways of operation, such will throw you off the balance if you are in the group.
Also, the only other community which seems to own a city are the Mijikenda under whose land Mombasa city is placed, making the Kisumu jab a blow to all the remaining people.
