As a university student, it can sometimes be tricky to survive on the little pocket money you receive from your parents.
However, when it comes to food, you don't have to go for expensive meals to live a healthy lifestyle.
There are a number of nutritious foods that a campus student can afford. Such meals include:
1) Ugali/ sukuma wiki/ avocado
This delicacy is commonly known as USA. This meal is not only easy to prepare but also nutritious. Sukuma wiki (kales) go for Sh10 bob and avocado costs Sh20.
2) Scrambled eggs and ugali
Eggs are very affordable, they cost Sh10-15. Preparing this meal will only take you 30 minutes or less. To prepare the scrambled eggs, you'll only require a little oil, an onion and two tomatoes and you are good to go.
3) Rice and beans
This combination of rice and beans is a common meal in many Kenyan households. Beans are usually cheap compared to other legumes. If you can't boil the beans yourself, you can buy boiled beans from your local café at an affordable price.
4) Githeri and vegetables
This meal is cheap yet very nutritious. Campus students can opt to buy githeri from a local cafe and accompany it with their favourite vegetables such as sukuma, spinach or even cabbage. If you don't like vegetables, avocado will be a nice substitute.
5) Spaghetti and meat
Spaghetti is one of the easiest foods to prepare. A combination of spaghetti and meat is a meal campus students can get at an affordable price.
