The boy died after he was attacked by the reptile when he went to fetch water in River Athi on Tuesday.

Ndondoni assistant chief Leonard Kyalo confirmed the incident.

Kyalo said the crocodile dragged the deceased into the waters before killing him.

He said the body was retrieved from the river by the locals.

"The crocodile waited as the kids fetched water in the evening where it struck one with its tail throwing him into the river but residents who were working on their farms were swift to rush and save him but he had lost his life," Kyalo said.

Kyalo said the body was removed to Mutomo Hospital's mortuary.

He lamented that cases of crocodiles attacking locals have increased in the area citing that the boy's uncle was also killed by a crocodile sometime back.

"The crocodiles are very many in the river and they have been attacking locals, we have tried engaging officers from Kenya Wildlife Services in a bid to solve the situation in vain," Kyalo said.

"We urge them to come down to the scene and deal with the situation since these beasts are causing havoc to the residents who are unable to fetch water from the river," he added.
