Deputy President William Ruto is expected to grace the second edition of Eldoret city marathon on Sunday.
The highly anticipated marathon has attracted at least 1000 athletes who will chase the top price of whooping Sh3.5 million which makes it the highest paying Marathon in Africa.
Speaking to Standard, the organizers of the event led by Moses Tanui said the race will start at the University of Eldoret and end at Central primary school in Eldoret town.
"The route was redesigned because of the ongoing road construction works in the town," the two-time Boston Marathon winner Moses Tanui told Standard.
Tanui warned those intending to dope in the Marathon that the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (Adak) will do tests and those found will be arrested.
The top 20 athletes in both genders will smile all the way to the bank as money prizes have been allocated. The winners will walk away with a whooping Sh3.5 million shillings each while the 20th position will reap Sh10,000.
The Marathon is reportedly up to International standards as it has been certified by International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) as a standard course following the assessment done by Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
The Kenyan team is expected to get a stiff challenge from Ethiopia their longtime challengers.
Sport Cabinet Secretary, Ambassador Amina Mohammed with other top leaders are expected to accompany the Deputy president to the event.
