Angry locals of Boiyeki village in Ngeri, Riana ward, Kisii County on Thursday night thoroughly canned a 19-year-old man suspected to be practising witchcraft.
Ben Atandi was found at the homestead of his immediate neighbour Pius Mogaka at midnight.
"I spotted Atandi disappearing into darkness when I was checking on my cow in the cowshed. I chased after him using the lights of my touch and nabbed him before he could step out of the compound," said Mogaka.
He said he raised alarm to attract neighbours rushed to the homestead.
"Atandi could not explain what he was doing in my compound. We had to cane him thoroughly before we surrendered him to area chief's camp," he noted.
The chief, Edward Mamwacha said this was not the first time the suspect was being suspected of being a wizard.
"Locals are living in fear due to increased cases of witchcraft. The suspect claimed that he was drunk and lost his way home yet he was not smelling alcohol," said the chief.
He urged locals to monitor the suspect closely and warned locals against practising witchcraft.
