Speaking on Radio Jambo on Thursday evening, Sankok also bashed Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i over the issue, faulting his revelations that the product is unfit for use.

The CS had earlier raised alarm over the import, saying that it contains harmful metal deposits, with Sankok now saying that the same was very low of him, terming him a weak officer.

He accused the CS of playing the victim instead of handling the issue in line with his mandate and resulting to fear and confusion among Kenyans, instead of using the power and machinery allocated to him to tackle the problem.

"Itakuaje kiongozi wa ulinzi nchini ndiye anayelia badala ya kusuluhisha haya mambo. Awache kushtua watu na afanye utafiti wake vizuri (he is expected to solve the issue and not to join the victims in complaining, he should stop scaring Kenyans and handle the issue)," he said.

He also demanded that Matiang'i comes clear on the actual concentration of the metal deposits in the sugar, noting that the government should as well enlighten Kenyans who might have already absorbed the sugar on how to get it off their systems.

This, he said, will ease the situation.

"Kwa wale ambao washakunywa hiyo chai atuambie hizo madini ziko kiasi gani kwa sukari na inaathiri sehemu gani ya mwili (since some Kenyans have already taken the product, he should now tell us the amount of the metals contained in the product and how to get it off their systems)," he said.
