A former MP from North Eastern has faulted the executive for militarizing the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations in the region.
Former Mandera North MP Bahir Abdullah now says the move by the executive to have a contingent of armed police officers in a school compound or even an exam room intimidates candidates thus making them panic.
"What is this hullabaloo about the KCPE and KCSE exams by the executive? Why are we militarizing exams? We have armed police in school compounds and some inside with blazing guns on their shoulders as if there are criminals inside the class. This actually intimidates the candidates. A handful of CSs are launching the exams with of armed police . I would understand the large number of police presence in a number of areas where there is threat of attacks especially in North Eastern - and even so we expect the police to be outside the school compound watching over," posted the former MP in his social media page.
The MP's statement comes barely hours after interior CS Fred Matiang'i presided over the opening of examination container in Garissa on Tuesday morning.
