Bura town police officers, Fafi Constituency, are on the spot for allegedly assaulting Ruqa chief on Tuesday.

The incident which happened in Bura town on Tuesday has received widespread condemnation with residents threatening to eject the rogue police officers if no action is taken by the relevant agencies.

Prior to the unfortunate incident, Abdi Hassan who is the Ruqa chief had attended a seminar at Bura town.

The chief has been admitted at Bura hospital after suffering injuries on his forehead. He is, however, said to be in a stable condition. 

Speaking to this writer from the health facility, chief Abdi revealed that a group of armed officers confronted him and started beating him up without giving an explanation as to why he was being roughed up.

"I am yet to be told of the crime I committed. I had just attended a seminar in Bura town before officers numbering at least four descended on me," Abdi said.

The chief is now calling on the Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) to take up the matter to deliver justice.

Cases of police officers assaulting civilians in North Eastern is on the rise. In November 2018, a woman named Mama Abdia was shot dead by police officers in Rhamu area of Mandera county.
