During a live interview at State House in Mombasa on Friday, President Uhuru Kenyatta offered his perspective on why veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga swore himself in at Uhuru Park at the height of Kenya's political crisis.

According to the president, Raila took the controversial move due to the intense pressure that he was under from supporters.

"You saw my brother going to Uhuru Park to swear himself in because of the pressure that he was under," he said in the interview.

Raila's mock inauguration as president heightened the country's political crisis with pro-government politicians calling for him to be charged with treason.

It came months after a disputed presidential election that the opposition claimed had been rigged.

Uhuru won the repeat October 20 election that was boycotted by Raila.

The ODM leader had promised supporters that he would swear himself in unless his demands were met.
