But what does it mean?

This urban online dictionary, that is mostly referred to when modern words and slang are mentioned, defines the word bae as the short form of the word "Before Anyone Else".

The urban dictionary also says that this word is used as a short form of the word "babe or baby". It can also be used interchangeably in the place of the word sweetie, sweetheart or my love.

Where did it come from?

A lifestyle website Esquire says that this word has been in use since the mid-2000's and it has been used in songs all over the world.

However, this word came into fame in 2014 when it was used in a popular video by American Musicians Pharell Williams and Miley Cyrus known as Come get it bae.

The word bae is mostly used in messages for instance when writing a caption on a WhatsApp status instead of captioning it as "me and my boyfriend" you can simply just caption it this way "Me and bae" and the message will be understood.
