Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat is now tipped to succeed governor Jackson Mandago whose two terms ends in 2022.
Political analyst Hillary Bett opines that Kiplagat is a youthful politician nursing his ambitions and is already scheming to take the top office in the county.
“From his recent speeches and movements across the county, he is most likely eyeing to succeed Mandago,” said Bett who studied bachelor in Political science at Kisii University.
From recent Uasin Gishu county succession political development, the analyst says Kiplagat has been the most outspoken county speaker in North Rift.
He recently led North Rift Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to defend Deputy President William Ruto, giving an ultimatum to Jubilee secretary general Rafael Tuju to resign after allegedly giving a dissenting opinion against DP'scandidacy to succeed his boss, Uhuru Kenyatta.
“Kiplagat's tactic currently is popularizing himself ahead of the next polls. What restrains him is the duty he has as a speaker of the county assembly,” said Bett who is also youth caucus leader in Uasin Gishu.
Notably, the Speaker on Friday during the burial of retired presidential escort security officer in Kesses, he fiercely criticized Zedekiah Budotich and ETG over a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed to supply farmers with fertilizers at Sh3,000.
Buzeki is also believed to be eyeing the seat after he lost to Mandago in 2017.
