Medical officers in Kisumu County have issued a fresh strike notice, barely a month after a nationwide nurses strike that ran for a couple of weeks, ended.
Under their Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) umbrella, the medics have threatened to slip into a fresh strike beginning Friday this week.
They are accusing the county leadership of dishonouring a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed between them in the year 2017.
The doctors want the betterment of their working conditions which they claim are poor, with Nyanza KMPDU Chair Kevin Osuri saying that their attempts to consult with the Anyang' Nyong'o-led leadership have been unsuccessful.
“We do not know why they failed to show up in a meeting they had organised. We have reached out to the county administration, but it has chosen not to listen,” he was quoted by the standard in reference to a flopped meeting set for last month.
However, the county through its Health executive Rosemary Obara says that she is yet to receive the strike notice and will act on it upon reception.
“As soon as I see the notice, we will engage them to avert the strike," said the cabinet member.
