While people would naturally sympathise with an ailing man after losing Sh5 million to a maid, it's however an opposite to octogenarian politician Simon Nyachae's case.
As police hunt for Ms Lilian Maina, the maid who is believed to have stolen the money, a section of Nyamira residents took on social media to celebrate the tragedy, an indication how one's popularity can fade so fast.
"He used Abagusii as shield to enrich himself and I don't know how someone can sympathize with such a person. If lifestyle audit is carried out, I swear that family will be in for it," fired Mercy Kemunto on Nyamira County Forum WhatsApp group.
For Dominic Oiko, EACC should visit the home of octogenarian politician and establish circumstances under which such sums of money can be stored in a house.
"Whether it's a tragedy or not, these are people who stole the country's money when in power. A serious search should be done to recover some. He was such an egocentric leader who only used power to enrich his family."
Elijah Ongwae added: "Look at how they own plots in Kisii town. The family is a disgrace to the community and Kenya at large. I wish she stole more."
Close to two decades, Nyachae, a former powerful civil servant and later cabinet minister, controlled Gusii politics.
In 2002, his Ford People party scooped all 10 parliamentary seats in Kisii and Nyamira Counties when he ran for president but would lose five years later to little known Robert Monda.
The Nyachae Empire owns Sansora Industries, United, several real estates and huge tracks of land across the country.
