Lamu Woman Representative Ruweida Obbo has weighed in on the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) debate consuming the public discourse.
In a news piece aired on KTN, Sunday, Obbo called on the people of Lamu not to be left behind in supporting the initiative, saying that it was enjoying support across the country.
She said that she would follow the direction in which President Uhuru Kenyatta would point the country.
"I want to tell you, if you don't know, everybody in Nairobi is supporting BBI. So don't be left behind. (Namwambia huko Nairobi kama huku hamjajua, kila mtu anaunga mkono BBI. Sasa nyinyi msiachwe nyuma kuunga mkono BBI, " Obbo said in a video shared on Twitter. (0:17-0:26)
The Lamu Woman Rep further showered praises to Uhuru and his erstwhile political adversary veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Her intervention in the BBI debate comes amid expectation that the report will be handed over to the two leaders in the coming days.
The report, whose contents still remain a closely guarded affair, has generated a back and forth between those who support it and those who are opposed to it.
Critics of the initiative claim that it is a cynical attempt to expand the executive so as to create leadership positions for individuals.
There are also claims that the BBI report will root for a parliamentary system that will take the power of electing a president from the people to elected parliamentarians
