Mandera Governor Ali Roba is serving his second and last term in office.
As the Jubilee governor serves his last term in office, a section of top politicians in Mandera is said to be eyeing to succeed him in 2022.
Peter Ngure, a political and social analyst now says that Mandera gubernatorial election in 2022 will be among seats to watch-out.
According to the analyst, here are 3 politicians who are likely to succeed Governor Roba in 2022.
1. Abdikadir Hussein Mohamed
He is the former Mandera Central MP.
A lawyer by profession, Mohamed is among vocal Somali politicians in North Eastern.
He was a member of the constitution implementation committee.
Though he is not active in politics, the former MP is said to be contemplating to return to active politics in 2022.
The former MP also served as President Uhuru Kenyatta’s constitutional advisor.
In March 2018, the former Mandera Central MP declined an ambassadorial appointment.
He had been appointed as Kenya’s ambassador to South Korea.
2. Mohamed Arai
He is Mandera County deputy governor.
Political pundits argue that he is likely to replace governor Roba in 2022.
He is described as a performer and has been pushing for key projects even before taking up deputy governor role.
3. Hassan Noor
He is the former Rift Valley Provincial Commissioner (PC).
He unsuccessfully contested for the governor seat in the August 8, 2017, general election.
Noor has a huge backing in Mandera and political pundits see him as the suitable successor of Governor Roba.
Noor unsuccessfully contested for the governor seat on his Economic Freedom Party (EFP).
4. Billow Kerrow
He is the former Mandera Senator.
Kerrow did not contest for re-election in the August 8, 2017, general election.
Senator Kerrow quit politics but there are claims that the veteran politician could make a comeback and contest for the governor seat in 2022.
Mandera is among North Eastern counties that overwhelmingly voted for President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8, 2017, general election
The region is likely to vote for Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 general election.
Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has been quoted saying that the North Eastern region is firmly behind DP Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
