Kenyans working at the Standard Gauge Railway should 'bear with' their Chinese colleagues, government spokesman Erick Kiraithe has said.

An expose by the Standard revealed alleged mistreatment targeting Kenyans working in the Madaraka Express which rekindled memories of colonialism.

Speaking to reporters in Nairobi, Kiraithe instead said the government had laid down strategies to curb the shortcomings.

"We have push all measures in place to deal with these issues , but if you are a Kenyan who claim to have been mistreated and you have no, then you have to," he said.

"The transition will be done in three, five up to ten years. There is no need to worry over the matter," he added.

So far, he said, over 1600 Kenyans have been absorbed by Madaraka Express, a number he says doubles that of Chinese operators.

In the report, Chinese workers are said to be sidelining Kenyans including engineers and other skilled operators in running the grand project.
