According to Robert Ikundo one of the boda boda riders, the problem started when the Kisii County imposed a tax to a Chinese contractor for drawing water from Mogusii River and River Side.

Since the contractor refused to meet their demand they ripped him off some of his equipment’s and even went to an extent of assaulting the contractor. This led to the contractor to stop constructing the highway.

The highway is filled with dust causing adverse effects to the boda boda and the nearby residents.

“The dust hinders visibility hence causing accidents, it enters into eateries affecting customers and the business owners, children are getting sick with coughs,” said Amos Gekonge.

Gekonge further added that he has taken his kid to the hospital twice because of the dust caused by the unfinished highway.

The boda boda riders want the County Government to cooperate and allow the contractor to finish the construction peacefully or sprinkle enough water on that highway each day to reduce dust.

Speaking to the press at Kisii Town Hon. Richard Momoima MP for Kitutu Chache South said he can’t condone bad governance, embezzlement of funds and that he wants accountability from the County Governor.

“From the Uyugis junction no youth from Kisii County has been employed in the ongoing construction of the highway,” the MP protested.

The MP called on the County Government to deal with the matter unequivocally.
