Machakos County judicial staff flanked by Chief Magistrate Alfred Kabiru on Wednesday visited Mwiso rescue center in Maweli, Mwala sub county, as a way of giving back to the society.
The staff donated assorted foodstuff, clothes, detergents and money to the rescue center that hosts children who have been defiled, and awaiting cases in court, and those who were deserted after birth.
Addressing the press after the function, Kabiru urged parents to undertake their responsibilities diligently and ensure children's rights are upheld.
He said drug abuse, violence, and lack of steady families have rendered many children homeless.
"We urge parents to take good care of their kids so that we won't burden children homes, because kids brought up in a family are happy," said Kabiru.
He urged residents to always visit, and spend time with the children in the rescue centers, as a way of making them feel accepted in the society.
His remarks were echoed by Mwala children's officer Emily Kimanzi who noted that the law requires parents to take care of their kids.
"The government has offered free education in both primary and secondary, not to mention various projects like Inua Jamii that have been quite helpful. Parents are no longer burdened in their quest to bring up their kids, and so they should take their responsibility seriously," Kimanzi said .
