A 40-year-old man has gone into hiding after he was caught with a stolen cow.
The incident happened on Friday in Bochura, Nyamira County.
Fred Manyara was found with the cow while he was taking it to the market.
Area Assistant Chief, Bartholomew Ongeri, said the suspect has been colluding with other criminals to steal livestock in the area.
“Manyara is among the notorious livestock thieves we have in the region. We suspect he stole the cow and he wanted to sell it but, luckily he was caught on his way to the market upon questioning where he was taking the cow, he ran away abandoning the cow,” he said.
Ongeri said Manyara has never kept livestock something that led locals to stop him and question him where he was taking the cow.
He said anyone whose cow might have been stolen should report to his office so that he or she can get back the cow.
“Livestock theft must come to an end in the region. People engaging in theft should know the law will not bend for them,” he added.
