Kuria through his official Facebook page proposes a law be put in place which will see elected leaders and political party leaders accept election results 'regardless of the outcome'.

"I have some free advice for the Building Bridges Initiative. All elected leaders and political party leaders must sign an undertaking to abide by ‘The Will of the People Charter’ to accept election results irregardless of the outcome," Kuria wrote on Monday.

If such a law is enacted, seemingly, it would then become hard for election losers to seek legal redress in the courts in a situation where they feel that the election was not free and fair.

This, therefore, may make Kuria's proposal a hard-sell to fellow legislators as some of them have been beneficiaries of the court process at one point or another.

For instance, President Uhuru Kenyatta's August 8, 2017 victory was nullified by the Supreme Court after then opposition Nasa sought legal redress arguing that the election was marred by irregularities.

The Building Bridges Initiative is the brainchild of President Uhuru and ODM party leader Raila Odinga following their March 9, 2018 handshake that has seen the duo work together on matters governance.

The initiative according to the two, is aimed at creating a solid framework that will ensure that the country avoids violence and ethnic divisions that are witnessed during every electoral cycle.
