Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi has remained rooted to his presidential candidature in the 2022 general election, refuting chances of backing another candidate once again.
Mudavadi who has since announced his candidature three times in the past has only vied once, backing President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2002, and opposition leader Raila Odinga in 2007 and 2017and appearing third in his 2013 bid.
However, speaking on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Mudavadi defended his many endorsements of fellow candidates, saying that he has been shelving his possible presidency for the sake of the nation.
''I have always been interested in leading this nation as its President, but I have also been looking at the bigger good of the country, hence my move to endorse others who seem to be better equipped instead,'' said the former Vice President.
About the ongoing push by his Western Kenya backyard leaders to strengthen the community ahead of the polls, Mudavadi cautioned outsiders against maximising on the region's diverse electoral decision to overlook it.
He noted that Luhyas have the freedom to vie in whichever pattern they like, adding that most of the people accusing the region of being divided are engaging in doublespeak, as they are personally unwilling to let their bedrocks vote outside.
''Its wrong for people to attack us for not voting in a single direction when the people throwing the jibes are themselves not allowing their supporters to vote for other people,'' added the opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA) founder and co-principal.
