Ruai Family Hospital in Tala is on the spot after a 34-year-old woman died due to excessive bleeding after giving birth in the hospital.
It's reported that Eunice Nzula Ngei, a mother of three was taken to the hospital on Thursday at around 7 am in labour and admitted.
Her husband Reuben Ngei told the press on Sunday that his wife gave birth to a bouncing baby boy at around 4 pm.
However, after noticing that his wife was taking long to come out of the ward, Ngei says he forced his way into the room that she was where he found a pool of blood and a lot of blood in the bucket.
"My wife was not coming out of the ward even after an hour then I saw hot water being taken to her room. I got anxious as to what was happening. I forced my way in and what I saw shocked me. There was a bucket with blood and so much blood on the floor as if something was being butchered, my wife started crying telling me she's dying," the husband narrated.
He said that he tried telling the doctor to refer his wife to Kangundo Level Four Hospital since her health was deteriorating but his pleas fell on deaf ears as he was forced out of the room.
Ngei further claimed that he was forced to carry his wife in a private car and taken to Kangundo Level Four Hospital where she was declared dead 15 minutes after arrival.
"My wife died on my hands just as the stretcher entered the theatre room at Kangundo hospital," he said while sobbing.
The hospital's administrator Paul Okoth, however, said that the medics did all they could and that there was no way a patient who was having active bleeding would be referred unless the bleeding stops.
He also said that the hospital tried severally to find an ambulance but their efforts bore no fruits.
"We called Kangundo hospital ambulance but we were told it's occupied, we called our main hospital ambulance and we were told it's occupied too," said Okoth who insisted that the medics followed the laid down procedure of handling a bleeding patient.
