Firebrand Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala's convoy was attacked on Friday by suspected goons as it snaked its way through Mayoni.

Windows of some of the vehicles were shattered by projectiles fired by the rampaging youths.

The pandemonium erupted as rival gangs supporting Senator Malala and Sports CS Rashid Echesa respectively pelted each other with stones.

Shots were fired in a frantic bid to disperse the violent groups.

The youths were armed with crude weapons including stones and clubs.

Senator Malala has in the past fired shots at the CS over assuming Cabinet position without higher education.

According to witnesses, those responsible for the attack on the convoy were chanting slogans in support of the Cabinet Secretary.
