June 21, 2016, Deputy President William Ruto caused laughter in Ukambani when he blasted former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka over anti-IEBC protests.
Ruto, while addressing a gathering at Kasikeu Secondary School in Kilome Constituency, Makueni County said it was such an irony for the ex-VP to be sitting on tarmac 'over such petty issues'.
Ruto sarcastically pleaded with Ukambani region to 'seriously pray for Kalonzo' so that he would rediscover himself.
"I want you to continue with serious prayers, and remember to pray for my brother Kalonzo," Ruto said.
"The last time I saw him, he was seated on a tarmac road in Nairobi after he was misadvised by other forces. The same Kalonzo who was vice president, please pray for him," Ruto added.
These sentiments stirred the residents who could not hold their bout, to a moment of laughter.
Ruto urged the Kamba community to support the Jubilee administration as they stood to benefit more compared to when they lean towards the Coalition of Reforms and Democracy.
Ukambani largely supports the opposition, most of the residents subscribe to ideologies of the Wiper party headed by Kalonzo.
Seven MPs from the region said no amount of intimidation could stop them from working with Jubilee, for the sake of development.
“I wish to ask the people of Ukambani to forget what happened in 2013 and support Jubilee come 2017 elections. We know you supported them (Cord) then but this time let us walk this road together,” Ruto said.
Ruto was accompanied by MPs Regina Ndambuki (Kilome), Joe Mutambo (Mwingi Central), John Munuve (Mwingi North), Munyao Kisoi (Mbooni), Rachel Nyamai (Kitui West).
Also present were legislators Richard Makenga (Kaiti), Dennis Waweru (Dagoretti South) as well as former MPs Kalembe Ndile and Prof Philip Kaloki.
The MPs said they would continue to work with the government in solving the challenges facing the people of Ukambani.
Ruto further pulled another surprise when he publicly dished out Sh5 million, wrapped in a carton box and handed it to Kilome MP Regina Ndambuki.
He directed that the money be deposited to the MP's account.
