Opposition Leader Raila Odinga in the company of several other leaders visited Kisumu to inspect an ongoing project aimed at removing water hyacinth from Lake Victoria on Monday.

The meeting was also attended by Cabinet Secretaries; Najib Balala (Tourism), Keriako Tobiko (Environment) and CS without portfolio Raphael Tuju. 

Among leaders present were Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang' Nyong'o, Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo and Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch.

Raila who doubles up as the African Union envoy for infrastructural development launched the project which is geared towards eradicating water hyacinth from Lake Victoria a month ago.

The initiative which saw a dredger procured by Lake Region Economic Bloc in conjunction with the county government of Kisumu and the national government through a partnership with Uganda based Mango Tree Group was launched by the Opposition leader in the presence of Kisumu county officials and other stakeholders.

Raila has been in Kisumu for the past few days, where he led residents in marking the 25th anniversary of the death of his father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
