The last nine months have been hectic for you. However, your new bundle of joy gives you reasons to appreciate the little things in life. There are certain things you should avoid days after welcoming your child. Never do these four things within the first 15 days after labour.
1. Using lotion on your breasts
Mothers should avoid using lotion on their breasts when breastfeeding as this can cause the baby to be sick if ingested. If your breasts are dry and have begun to crack, it is advisable to express some of your own milk and rub it on the affected areas. The antibacterial properties contained in breast milk will prevent infection and well as alleviate the dryness.
2. Not doing Kegels
Women are advised to do Kegels after delivery. Doing Kegel exercises after the birth of your baby will help strengthen your vagina muscles as well as help in bringing the pelvic floor back to normal.
3. Wearing tight clothes
Tight clothing is a big no for women after delivery. Women should look for something loose-fitting and comfortable. Tight clothes can cause discomfort if they press against the abdomen which is usually sensitive a few days after birth. Tight pants can also cause your scar to reopen if had a C-section.
4. Going to swim
Swimming is not recommended a few days after giving birth. New moms should consult their doctors to ensure they're completely healed and their cervix is closed before going for a swim. You are likely to get infections if you get in the pool before the recommended time.
