The Deputy President says that the communities should live in harmony as the government works on improving peace and development projects in the areas.

Speaking when he officiated the Pastoralist Leadership Summit 2019 held in Garissa Town on Friday, the DP stated that the national government will work with counties in pastoralist areas to champion development.

He observed the national government is also keen on fighting marginalization of pastoralists communities.

The DP said the government will treat its citizens equally without considering on where they come from.

He pleaded with leaders in pastoralist areas to take advantage of devolution and champion development and service delivery to Kenyans.

“A strong, collaborative approach involving the national government, pastoralist counties and development partners is key to addressing marginalization,” he said.

The DP added, “Through infrastructure Programmes and checking under-representation, we will harness the potential of these areas and promote tangible development.”

Leaders from the pastoralist counties attended the summit themed ‘fostering peace, security and enhancing socio-economic development of pastoralist counties’.
