Nutritionist, Mercy Etyang says that too much sugar is bad for our health.

“Many chronic diseases are being caused by the huge amount of sugary foods we consume,” she observes.

Here are 3 health benefits of consuming less sugar;

1.Good sleep

Consuming a lot of sugar denies you the chance to have a good sleep.

Etyang observes that too much sugar gives our body too much energy and in the process denying us good sleep.

“Too much sugar triggers cortisol hormone which disrupts your sleep,” she says.

She, however, states that people who take less sugar often experience good sleep.

2. No pimples and wrinkles

 Consuming less sugar prevents you from getting pimples and face wrinkles.

Etyang notes that too much sugar causes acne which makes our skin to sag. 

She says that you skin can glow and look younger only if you avoid too much sugar.

3. No chronic diseases 

Too much sugar largely contributes to chronic diseases like diabetes and heart diseases. 

Etyang notes people who consume too much sugar have a higher chance of developing high blood pressure than those who don’t.

“Research has shown that adding just one serving of sugar to your diet every day increases your chances of getting diabetes by 20 per cent,” she says.

Etyang advises the use of natural sugar instead of processed sweeteners.

With claims that imported sugar has traces of mercury and copper, it will be important for you to consider surviving without it for the sake of your health.
