An Administration Police (AP) officer has committed suicide in Dandora estate, Nairobi County.
The body of the slain officer was found dangling in his bathroom on Wednesday night. The officer allegedly used a piece of cloth to hang himself.
According to the Standard, the officer identified as Constable Moses Maina Gichuki was stationed at Lokorio police post in Turkana County.
The officer is said to have been on annual leave at the time of the shocking incident. Confirming the incident, Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo said the motive of the incident is not known.
He said that detectives have launched an investigation into the incident.
The country has witnessed a rise in cases where men and women in uniform are being killed by unknown people or taking their own lives.
The latest suicide incident comes two weeks after two police officers committed suicide in Mandera and Tala, Machakos county.
The Standard reports that a dozen men and women in uniform have died in the past three months.
As suicide cases increase, the National Police Service is rolling out a psycho-education and counselling program targeting the officers in the service.
