Speaking during an interview on Saturday in his office, Kisii county police commander Martin Kibet said the fire broke at around 5 am when the students were in their morning studies.

Kibet said no student was injured during the incident.

"Students lost all their belongings. Members of the public tried to put off the fire in vain since it spread fast reducing to ashes the whole dormitory which was housing over 150 students," he said.

The police commander noted that investigations have commenced so as to establish the cause of the fire.

"We suspect that fire broke as a result of an electric fault but an investigation is ongoing before detailed information can be given about the incident," Kibet said.

He assured parents of their children's safety arguing that the school will move the affected students to a different dormitory as plans to build the new one starts.

The police boss also noted that the incident will not disrupt normal operations at the school and called on well-wishers and local leaders to help students who lost their belongings.
