Kipchoge's time is the second fastest in history, and a course record for the London marathon

Following the win, Kipchoge became the only man to ever win the London Marathon four times after winning in 2015, 2016, and 2018.

His fourth win now sets him apart from three other athletes who won the London Marathon title three times each.

The three are Mexican Dionicio Cerón who won in 1994, 1995 and 1996, Portuguese Antonio Pinto who won three London Marathon titles in 1992, 1997 and 2000 and Kenyan Martin Lel who become the winner in 2005, 2007 and 2008.

The 34-year old Kipchoge put his foot on the gas to defeat Ethiopians Mosinet Geremew and Mule Wasihun who finished second and third respectively.

Kipchoge is the World Marathon record holder after running a time of 2 hours, one minute, and 39 seconds during the 2018 edition of the BMW Berlin Marathon in Germany, in September last year.

In the women's race, Brigid Kosgei won the 2019 London Marathon after finishing second last year, while last year’s winner Vivian Cheruiyot settled for the second spot.
