Former Migori Senator Wilfred Machage has announced his retirement from elective politics.
Machage hails from Kehancha in Kuria West Constituency, Migori county in the larger former Nyanza province.
Addressing the press on Saturday, he said that he will now concentrate on his ambassadorial position and will watch the heating Migori senatorial by-election from a distance.
"I have retired from elective politics. I have served my people long enough and I think it is time to move on to other things," the Kenyan High Commissioner to Nigeria told the Daily Nation.
The long serving politician was the first Senator of the county as a result of a Luo-Kuria agreement that saw the Senatorial seat awarded to the small Kuria community.
He, however, made a downward move in the 2017 poll, opting for the Kuria West parliamentarian seat after the dominant Luo community rejected another agreement.
Consequently, the Luo fronted candidates for both the senatorial and gubernatorial seats.
He was, however, floored by Mathias Nyambabe who vied on the ruling Jubilee Party ticket.
He has been in politics for decades, serving as Member of Parliament for three terms and was as well an Assistant Minister in retired President Mwai Kibaki's government.
