The AP, Patrick Nyapara allegedly killed his lover Christine Maonga by shooting her using his job gun on March 14, in what the police suspect was a case of love gone sour.

Nyapara was on Monday arraigned before a Kakamega Magistrate's Court which gave the prosecution seven more days to conclude investigations into the matter.

The time is also to be used to record more statements from witnesses and conduct more mental assessment tests after initial ones declared him unstable and unable to stand trial.

Nyapara reportedly shot the woman who was a high school teacher at Navakholo Secondary School in the head after a disagreement at her home in Navakholo sub-county. He then attempted to flee.

He was arrested two days later while trying to sneak into neighbouring Uganda and detained pending prosecution.

Pathological tests have also confirmed that the deceased died from a head injury, further implicating the officer.

He will be held at the Kakamega Police Station as the prosecution also awaits ballistic reports on his Ceska pistol, allegedly used in the murder.
