A flamboyant city businessman who among individuals charged in court for defrauding Sameer Africa Chairman Nashud Merali of Sh10 million after mimicking the voice of President Uhuru Kenyatta has hinted that he will join politics in 2022.

 The controversial businessman Joseph Waswa over the weekend during a funeral in Sirisia, Bungoma County declared that he will offer himself for a major political seat in the  County. 

He, however, did not disclose which seat he will contest for.

“2022 mimi nitasamama (I will vie for a political seat in 2022),” said  Mr Waswa, who added in vernacular that he will not be defeated by anyone.

Even though he did not disclose which position he will go for, speculation is rife among the residents that Waswa maybe considering to vie for the Bungoma Senatorial seat, currently held by  Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetang’ula.

At the funeral, Waswa asked mourners not to be shaken by the grave allegations facing him, dismissing the claims against him and six others as ‘joto baridi’.

“ You have heard the allegations against me, it should not shake you it will all end. Mti mzuri ndio inapigwa mawe (People throw stones at a  good tree full of fruits,” he added, perhaps in an effort to show that he was innocent.

Waswa and his accomplices  Duncan Muchai,  Issack Wanyonyi,  William Simiyu,  David Kikuyu,  Gilbert Kirunja and  Antony Wafula were released on February 27 after they denied the charge.

 They were freed on Sh20,000 bond each, with Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi giving the t accused an alternative cash bail of Sh100, 000 each.

While issuing the ruling,  the magistrate Mr Andayi directed the suspects to be reporting once every week to the investigating officer for the next three weeks.
