Locals of Nyangoso village in Kebuko, Kisii County on Saturday planted bananas protesting the bad state of the Nyangoso-Kebuko road.
The angry locals comprising of traders at Nyangoso market accused Kisii Governor James Ongwae of failing to upgrade the road even after promising to.
"Ongwae has neglected us since he won the polls on August 8, 2017. We are facing challenges ferrying our products to the market to sell because of the impassable road," said Edinah Gesare, a trader.
Gesare said they arrived at the decision to plant bananas on the road after it turned muddy rendering it impassable due to the ongoing heavy rains.
Collins Momanyi, also a trader slammed Ongwae for sleeping on his job.
He warned that should the county boss fail to upgrade the road, he will be banned from stepping his feet in the area.
"We will hold demos to Ongwae's office to ensure he upgrades the road to ease transportation of people and goods," Momanyi stated.
Area assistant chief Julius Okeyo however, warned locals against digging the road to plant the bananas.
"Locals need to stop destroying the road. Let them use right procedures to have the road upgraded not planting bananas," he stated while also warning leaders against inciting locals to plant bananas on the road.
