More leaders have intensified their defense for Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i over fake gold saga even as detectives continue to investigate the matter.
A team allied to DP William Ruto on Saturday questioned Matiang'i's role in the scandal that saw a Saudi Royal losing close to Sh400 million, after it emerged that some of the suspects were protected by GSU.
Mr Evans Chacha, an activist, on Sunday defended the minister from any wrong doing, arguing that there is a probability that Dr Matiang'i does not know the color of gold.
"Let them spare our hard working minister from nonsense. He doesn't even know how gold looks like. Let them ask him about bananas," he said in reference to staple food of Abagusii.
Jubilee Youth Leader Nyamira branch Brian Mamboleo said there is a plot by some politicians to taint Matiang'i over 2022 presidential race.
"Let them try to be objective. Matiang'i is not responsible for their struggles. It's important to politic without dragging his name. We shall know the real perpetrators."
Earlier, Gusii based politician Zaheer Jhanda, had claimed that a section of politicians from Rift Valley had approached him and asked him to drag Matiang'i's name in the scam.
