The suspect managed to escape following a police operation at the estate on Thursday that saw over 1,000 sachets of the illicit alcohol nabbed.

Addressing the press at the Kapsoya Police Police, Eldoret East OCPD Richard Omanga said among the netted illicit alcohol is suspected to be from a neighbouring country.

The market value of the nabbed sachets is Sh60,000.

“Our officers have netted Simba Waragi, an illicit brew brand which is brought from our neighbouring country and we are trying to trace and find out who are these people involved,” Omanga said while pointing out that the brand is dangerous and not fit for human consumption.

“We have been fighting this vice and the suspect behind this brew managed to escape when the police officers stormed in her residence but we are still on hot pursuit to ensure she is arrested,” he added.

The OCPD noted that the culprit had been arrested previously and taken to court where he was fined and later released.

He lamented over low fines illicit brew suspects are slapped with at the courts and expressed hope that such individuals would face stiffer penalties in a bid to enhance the fight against illicit alcohol.

On concerns over the flooding of the brews from neighbouring countries, Omanga said they are working closely with other government agencies and security team at the borders to ensure the loopholes allowing the illegal business to thrive are sealed.
