The memorial mass for the Bishop is expected to be held at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Eldoret town.

Bishop Korir died on October 30, 2018, after a short illness.

His death occurred at a time of political uncertainty keeping in mind that he was seen as one of the few sober and impartial men of God who always preached peace and coexistence.

He is remembered for his work in uniting worrying communities in the North Rift region as well as his peace initiatives during 1992, 1997 and the 2007 post-election violence in the region.

In the height of 2007 skirmishes, Bishop Korir hosted over 10,000 Internally Displaces Persons (IDPs) at the Eldoret Cathedral compound.

As part of the commemoration, the Eldoret Diocese is on Friday conducting a vigil mass ahead of the memorial mass.
