Those planning to run for Nairobi County gubernatorial seat in 2022 must brace themselves for a tough battle, Mike Sonko has warned.
Sonko, who is the current governor, said he will be defending his seat and will floor all those who will show interest to oust him.
The flamboyant politician spoke moments after a letter surfaced online purporting that he had resigned. He rubbished the letter as fake.
“I am steadfast and loyal to my supporters and cannot make such an impulsive and cowardly decision without consulting my party hierarchy,” Sonko said.
He gave the clearest hint that he will be running in 2022 to defend his seat.
“I urge my political nemesis to stop using these archaic tricks and wait for the coming elections which I will floor all of them,” he added.
Political pundits have been ruling out Sonko as many feel he has short-changed Nairobians over failure to manage the city.
Garbage collection, potholes, and hawkers menace are some of the issues city dwellers accused Sonko of failing to fix.
