The affected universities now claim the Commission for University Education (CUE) released false information to the public.

A day after CUE chief executive officer Mwenda Ntarangwi listed the number of courses in universities, which are yet to be approved, Vice Chancellors have come forth with their guns blazing while faulting the commission of being inconsiderate in the listing of the courses, reports Standard.

The management of Tom Mboya University College in Homa Bay County has questioned why the institution has been listed among those offering 133 useless courses yet it has been given a green light on all courses.

According to the principal Principal Charles Ochola, the institution only offers 13 courses and not 37 as mentioned by the governing commission.

He also said that the same courses are being offered by Maseno University where they have been approved.

“The regulations require that a constituent university college offers courses of the parent university. We are currently offering only 13 courses, which belong to Maseno University,” said Ochola.

He also revealed that they have already presented the commission with 12 additional courses although they have not been implemented as per the time of reporting.

The commission had requested students to check on its official website for courses deemed useless.

Lukenya University has also differed with the courses mentioned by the commission saying that both were approved in 2015.

The institution also said that it had been given powers to advertise the course while wondering why it had to be listed among facilities offering courses that are considered a waste of time and money.

Efforts to reach Vice-Chancellors Committee chairperson Francis Aduol to comment on the matter proved futile.
