Youths from Kibera could find themselves back to the streets after a call by a section of the opposition for protests in the city.
This is after Makadara MP George Aladwa reached out to President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack Treasury Cabinet Secretary (CS) Henry Rotich for allegedly disobeying Parliament and putting Kenyans into economic hardship.
Aladwa says that CS Rotich is not serving the interests of Kenyans and should quit office.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Monday, Aladwa said that they (MPs) are going to push for Rotich’s removal.
He said that the CS move to implement the 16 % Value Added Tax on petroleum products is in bad faith.
The MP said that Rotich has no powers to go against Parliament decisions.
“We are going to push him out of office if he does not stop implementation of the 16 % VAT that is now in force,” he said.
Aladwa said that Kenyans are already feeling the pinch following the increase in fuel prices and other petroleum products.
The MP asked Nairobians to get ready for protests in the push to have CS Rotich removed from office.
On Sunday, Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch issued a 72-hour ultimatum to Rotich to reverse fuel prices.
He said that failure by Rotich to reverse the fuel prices will see city dwellers storm the streets in peaceful protests.
On Saturday, the 16 % VAT on fuel was implemented with the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) announcing new prices for fuel that has seen bus fare for commuters using Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) increase.
Last week MPs had voted to suspend the 16% VAT implementation by two years.
