On April 04 2017, the Governor warned Siaya Senator James Orengo and then Kisumu Senator Anyang Nyong’o (now Kisumu Governor), against making ‘unnecessary’ political in-roads in the border county.

“Let them concentrate in their areas where they have never won a free and fair nomination. They want to mess the nominations here but we will not allow them,” Obado was quoted by the Nation.

“They are hanging on the coat-tails of Mr Raila Odinga (ODM leader) in order to remain relevant politically," he said.

Obado’s hard hitting statement came a day after the two Senators alongside Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho visited Migori  to open an ODM office.

They were invited by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, and were accompanied by Ochillo Ayacko who was facing Obado in the ODM party primaries for the gubernatorial ticket ahead of last year’s August 8th general elections.

The leaders were reportedly supporting Ayacko, a move that annoyed Obado.

The function, was, however violently disrupted after a section of youth believed to be supporters of Obado, stormed the meeting at Posta grounds in Migori town.

Obado went on to win the ODM party ticket and got re-elected for a second term.
