Disabled children studying at Seiyo special school in Kesses constituency, Uasin Gishu County can now be able to acquire skills that will help them earn a living.
This is after the unveiling of a vocational workshop at the school where the children will be equipped with various skills.
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s elder sister Kristina Kenyatta, on Wednesday, presided over the unveiling of the vocational workshop that was constructed courtesy of the National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya (NFDK).
The president’s sister is the NFDK board of trustees’ chairperson.

“When these children reach 18 years, it will be good to be taught a few skills that will enable them make a few cash to sustain themselves and even the family and this is why we set up this vocational workshop,” said Kenyatta during the function that was also attended by Uasin Gishu deputy governor Daniel Chemno.

She also promised to engage with the Safaricom foundation so as to get more funds that will see the equipping of the vocational workshop.
The NFDK board of trustees’ chairperson further challenged the county government of Uasin Gishu and Kesses Member of Parliament Dr Swarup Mishra to help construct dormitories and a kitchen at the school so that the children can study while staying at the school.
“Some of these children come from as far as 10 kilometres and imagine having to commute to here morning and evening. They are exposed to many dangers that need to be addressed by having a boys and girls dormitories,” she said.
