The City of Kristiansand in Norway and the City of Mombasa have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance Prevention and Counter Violent Extremism programmes, cultural exchange visits, scholarship and education opportunities.
Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho hosted the Norwegian delegation led by Deputy Mayor Jørgen H. Kristiansen in his office and thanked them for visiting the Coastal city to cement their closer working ties for the benefit of their people.
Meanwhile, the State Department of Vocational and Technical Education (TVET) in the Ministry of Education plans to establish a catalytic fund, which will stimulate enrollment into maritime courses.
Principal Secretary Dr. Kevit Desai the investment will also go along way in improving the infrastructural and technical capacities of TVET institutions not only in Mombasa but across the Coast.
Accompanied by the Deputy Principal of the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic and other officials, Dr Desai met Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi who said the County Department of Education has remained committed to promoting TVET education through partnerships with several TVET institutions across the county which have consistently been enrolling county sponsored students to pursue various technical courses.
"We shall continue engaging with the State Department of TVET on this subject even as we hope to syphon maximum dividends from this partnership with the Department," he said on Thursday.
