Nyamira County Governor John Nyagarama has reiterated that his government values women.
The county boss while speaking on Tuesday during a meeting with chiefs and assistant chiefs in Nyamira appealed to pregnant women to visit public health centres to deliver.
According to the county boss, babies born at the health centres have high chances to survive unlike those delivered at homes.
"My government has rolled out a health programme known as maternal health care aimed at ensuring expectant mothers deliver at health centres for the sake of their safety and that of the newborn. I, therefore, take this opportunity to urge all women to ensure they are visiting health centres to deliver," he said.
He further urged that newborn babies be taken for immunization for purposes of good growth.
Nyagarama urged the chiefs and their assistants to sensitize women across all villages on the importance of giving birth at various health centres.
"It is wrong when mothers and newborn babies die at homes due to complications which arise when expectant mothers give birth at home. It is the high time women should be encouraged to visit health centres to deliver babies successfully," he added.
