The president acknowledged the work that the Kenyan police are doing in reinforcing law and order across the nation.

But this time around, the president was specific and openly condemned police officers who are fond of asking for bribes from business people.

“While we are working hard daily to give our business people a conducive working environment, some police officers on the other side are busy frustrating our industrious business people, this is not right,” he said.

The president was speaking during a stopover in Isinya, Kajiado County on Saturday during his trip back to Kenya from Arusha Tanzania.

“Why should you ask for a bribe from a woman who is a vegetable vendor yet the woman is relying on you to give her and her business maximum safety?” wondered the president.

The president explained that it is the duty of the police to provide safety for business people and the public at large without asking any bribe. He added that it is a big shame for the police to obtain bribes so as to provide a service.

“Don’t harass business people and make them scared, instead you must give them assurance that their businesses are safe. My government will take stern action against any police officer who will be reported taking a bribe or unlawfully harassing business people," he warned.
