The Ethiopian Airline has grounded Boeing 737Max-8 fleet after yesterday's crash involving an Ethiopian plane.
In a statement shared on Twitter, the airline management noted that the suspension began yesterday until further notice is provided.
"Although we don't yet know the cause of the accident, we had to decide to ground the particular fleet as extra safety precaution. Ethiopian Airlines will release further information as soon as it is available," the statement read in part.
The move came hours after China’s aviation regulator suspended Boeing 737 Max-8 aircraft operations worldwide as families of the victims seeks answers to the death of their kin.
In the statement, the regulator noted that airlines would be notified as to when they could resume flying the jets after contacting Boeing and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to ensure flight safety.
“Given that two accidents both involved newly delivered Boeing 737-8 planes and happened during take-off phase, they have some degree of similarity,” the authority said, adding that the order was in line with its principle of zero-tolerance on safety hazards. The 737 Max-8 is sometimes referred to as the 737-8.
The accident claimed lives of 32 Kenyans.
