A family in Mawe, Rongai sub-county, is in grief after their 10-year-old daughter died after consuming poison.
According to the girl's father, Harun Opondo, Faith Gisare consumed a pesticide meant for tick control in cattle after a disagreement with her brother.
Opondo noted that his wife tried to save their daughter's life by performing first aid but it was too late.
“This is a sudden and unfortunate blow to the family,” said Opondo.
Gisare was the last born in the family of eight.
Confirming the incident, area Deputy County Commissioner Julius Kavita said the disagreement between the siblings is what led the minor to take her own life.
Kavita said his administration will organise counselling sessions for residents, considering this is the second case of suicide in the area in less than two weeks.
He, at the same time, called on parents to be extra cautious when handling cases involving their children.
The body was taken to the Nakuru County mortuary.
