A week after a horrific terrorist attack in Nairobi, Father Lawrence Nyaanga who is also a chaplain at Kisii University has given the reason why young and educated people are being recruited into terroristic groups like Al-Shabaab.
Speaking on Monday to the congregation In Kisii Diocese, Nyaanga said that the rate at which the youths are enrolled to terroristic groups is alarming and therefore asked parents to raise their children in a better way to avoid crimes in the region.
He said that all the problems are caused by negligence and ignorance of parents who fail to teach their children morals.
He further condemned the parents for failing to talk to their children over life matters and how they should relate with other people in the surrounding.
He also requested the National and county governments to coordinate and ensure drug abuse is equally reduced in the region as it is the major cause of the crimes in the region.
"Currently, people who are learned, and even degree holders are being recruited into crime groups like Al-Shabaab. This starts from the families where parents fail to teach their sons and daughters on how to live according to morals as dictated by society," Nyaanga said.
"I am requesting the national government and county government to ensure that drug abuse is reduced in Kisii as it is rampant in the town," he added.
This comes a week after a terrorist attack at Dusit D2 Hotel Riverside in Nairobi, where some of the terrorists were confirmed to be University graduates.
