Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei has supported the move by Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha to shut down substandard satellite campuses.

Shollei said that the crackdown geared towards shutting down satellite campuses for major universities is a step towards the right direction.

"It was about time this was done. I commend and have utmost respect for Prof Magoha," said Shollei adding "but he is also part of the problem. He was at UoN when it was expanding and creating satellite campuses all over the country."

Last year, the Commission of University Education (CUE) together with the Education Ministry closed down 57 satellite campuses after they failed to meet accreditation requirements.

While releasing the 2018 KCSE candidates University placements results, Prof Magoha vowed that university education will be rationalised in order to stop course duplication in the institutions.

Last week, the government announced the closure of 24 satellite campuses with Laikipia University being the most affected after its 6 satellite campuses including those in Embu, Nyahururu, Upper Hill, Naivasha, Nakuru and Eldoret being closed.

Other affected varsities were: Moi University's  Kericho, Mombasa and Nakuru campuses; JKUAT 's Kisumu, and Westlands campuses, Kenya Methodist University's  Nakuru and Nyeri campuses.

Other that were affected include Catholic University of East Africa Kisumu and Nairobi CBD Campuses; University of Baraton Eldoret and Nairobi campuses, Cooperative University Meru campus, Kabarak University Nairobi campus, South Eastern Kenya University Nairobi campus, Masinde Muliro University Nairobi campus, Mount Kenya University Kabarnet campus, Egerton University Kabarnet campus and Maseno University Homa Bay campus.
